be used to study Colitis (Inflammatory Bowel disease) as well as an antiviral as agent.
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is characterized by chronic and relapsing inflammation of the gastrointestinal
tract which is associated with increased risk of developing colitis-associated cancer. Several animal models have
been used to study colitis and one such model involves the oral administration of dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) in
the drinking water of mice leading to chronic colitis. This DSS induced colitis model is spontaneous and is used to
assess the therapeutic potential of treatments for IBD.
